Billfish alternative: management, or retrieval

Both do reverse image search; the split is face, pose, and text in images

Billfish lists reverse image search and image content search, and both products have them. Assist Local Image Search adds face search with automatic clustering, pose search, OCR and table screenshot recognition, region lookup, deduplication, and export.

Billfish fits better when

  • You collect inspiration from the web and want one-click browser capture.
  • Your assets are varied and format breadth matters more than retrieval depth.
  • You would rather not pay for a tool when a free one covers the job.

You need deeper retrieval when

  • You need to find a person, have the library clustered automatically, and export in bulk.
  • You need to search by text in the image, by table screenshots, or by body pose.
  • You need to crop a small pattern and find the complete original containing it.
  • You need duplicate cleanup, or results exported as a table for client delivery.
  • You need several computers, tablets, and phones on the same LAN to share one library.

FAQ

I already use Billfish. Do I need another tool?

It depends which part is missing. If you only need similar-image lookup, the reverse image search Billfish lists already covers it. If you need face, pose, or in-image text search, or bulk deduplication and export, those are a different class of capability and the two can run side by side.

Do I have to import images into its library?

No. Add a folder and it builds an index. Files stay in their original location and folder structure, with no copying or moving.

Billfish is free, so why pay?

If free solves your problem, use free. Paying buys face clustering and distribution, pose search, table screenshot recognition, bulk deduplication, export to a table, and someone to answer when something breaks.

Are my images uploaded?

No. Indexing and search run on your machine. The standard edition only goes online to validate licence time, and a fully offline edition is available.
